Patents
Last updated: January 2025Patent Applications
The mlOS Foundation has filed provisional patent applications to protect key innovations in the project. These patents cover novel approaches to ML runtime execution, memory management, and kernel-level optimizations.
Predictive Memory Management for ML Inference
Methods and systems for predicting memory requirements of ML models and proactively managing memory allocation to minimize latency and prevent out-of-memory conditions during inference.
Provisional Application FiledKernel-Native ML Runtime Architecture
Architecture and methods for executing ML inference workloads with kernel-level integration, enabling deterministic scheduling, reduced context switching, and hardware-optimized execution paths.
Provisional Application FiledPatent Grant for Open Source Use
The mlOS Foundation is committed to the open source ecosystem. We provide a patent grant to all users of the mlOS software:
Patent Grant: Subject to the terms of the mlOS open source license, users are granted a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable patent license to make, use, sell, offer for sale, import, and otherwise transfer the software, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by mlOS Foundation contributors that are necessarily infringed by their contributions.
Defensive Use
These patent applications are filed for defensive purposes to:
- Protect the open source project and its users from patent claims
- Ensure the technology remains freely available for the community
- Establish prior art for the innovations developed by the project
- Prevent others from patenting and restricting access to similar technologies
Patent Termination Clause
The patent grant terminates automatically for any party that initiates patent litigation (including cross-claims or counterclaims) against the mlOS Foundation or any contributor, alleging that the software constitutes patent infringement.
